College is the time to reinvent yourself!
College is the time to explore interests and take advantage of all the opportunities that present themselves in the next four years. You will be exposed to people from all over the country and often other parts of the world. Get involved, seek out things that interest you and make an effort to be apart of something bigger than you. I know that sounds cliché, but it really is true. You never know who you will meet in college that may help you find your first job, or get you that future promotion. The more networking you can do, the better off you will be down the road. And I will tell you this, it is not always the straight A students that get the best jobs or move up the ladder the fastest…it’s the people with motivation, determination and perseverance. A positive attitude and “can do” personality will win over an interviewer or even a professor, every time. Attitude IS everything! So, if you hung around people that had a tendency to bring you down in high school…then yes…reinvent yourself! And I will tell you this much, if you think you can sit in your dorm and party with your friends or not go to class, and make it through college…you are wrong! Even the brightest in high school do not make it in college if they don’t go to class and keep up with their studies. That’s just the way it is….and it has been proven time and time again, so don’t think you will be the one to make it without doing the work! So why not reinvent yourself! Hang out with people you’ve never hung out with before. Join clubs you never could in high school because “it just wasn’t cool.” Take weekend trips with the Canoe Club or volunteer at the local YMCA because now is the best time to find out who you really are and what really makes you smile. The opportunities are out there and it’s your job to seek them out!
