About ChatOn, Inc.
Reid McKinstry - One of the founders of ChatOnColleges.com and a recent graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University majoring in Management/ Entrepreneurship. He started ChatOnColleges in the fall of 2009 to help future and current college students connect and find information that will make their college careers successful. As a recent graduate, he knows how hard it is to choose the right college (he transferred after one year out-of-state), the right major (changed majors 3 times) and to balance the workload with the fun. His goal for this community is to help answer as many questions as possible about college life and bring college students, parents and professors/professionals together. Currently Reid is job hunting, and will be giving information and clues on how to find a career path job, after college.
Tevis McKinstry - Co-founder and huge supporter of Reid (her son). Tevis grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Business/Public Administration. She has worked in both the private and public sector, along with owning her own business. ChatOnColleges was intended to be the first of a series of ChatOn communities/forums, however after working over a year at providing useful information to students and parents, it’s been decided to focus all of their attention on this website before venturing out any further. Having experience with a recent college graduate and a daughter just finishing up her first year, Tevis believes they have enough useful information that they can share pertaining to how to get into college, what to expect when you’re there, and how to get a job after you graduate. Her background is in Human Resources so she will try to bring in aspects on how a college degree applies to your future, and which jobs are in highest demand.
Brynn McKinstry – The new comer to ChatonColleges who will be sharing some of her experiences while she is in college – the good, the bad and sometimes the ugly! Brynn just finished her first year at the University of Florida and is working on combining advertising with fashion. Brynn’s blogs will be real life experiences from an 18 to 21 year olds prospective of what she is going through as she tackles those tough years, transforming from a teenager to an adult. Take a minute to read Brynn’s blogs and see what college life is really all about!
FYI from Tevis: Did you know that only 46% of students that enter college their freshmen year will graduate? It’s true and many colleges are working on changing those statistics by having smaller class sizes and more tutoring available. However, I’ve always told my kids if college were easy, everyone would have a degree. It’s not easy, but I know anyone that wants to go to college CAN, and anyone that has the drive to finish, WILL. I think if you are just seeking out the information, you’re on the right step. Join the McKinstry bloggers who are happy to answer questions and share in their journey to help you succeed in getting in and graduating from college!
